TLDRīit serial refers to a technique used in the design of CPU and DSP architectures - such that data is processed in a serial fashion - usually 1 bit at a time (though 2-bit and 4-bit methods are also used sometimes). The next step is to add a parallel memory interface, and convert the bit serial ALU into a fully functioning stored program cpu. This is one first step on the journey to a complete bit serial cpu with SPI compatibility. It also includes a 74xx299 universal shift register which is compatible with interfacing to a parallel bus. "8_bit_serial_ALU" extends the ALU, improves the instruction decoding and adds a simple state machine "SPI Sequencer". The inputs and outputs already exist as parallel registers, so they will interface easily to a parallel memory bus. The purpose of this design is to exercise and prove the functionality of the bit serial ALU. The file "min_calc_1" is a bit serial ALU with a manual push-switch input and a 7-segment hex output display. Simulations and designs for bit serial ALU TTL circuitry and cpu architectures - using H.
